Going on vacation (especially if it involves the beach) can bring up some not so body-posi thoughts…
You’ve been scouring the internet planning out your beautiful getaway and in the meantime probably racked up a bundle of images in your head of what you think you need to look like while you’re in that gorgeous place.
Hey, it’s normal to have thoughts like:
“I should lose weight before this trip.”
“If I do a couple extra workouts this week I’ll feel better.”
“Maybe I’ll fast in the morning to beat my bloat.”
This kind of “not enough” self-talk can spike when you’re about to put on a swimsuit and strut your ass into the water like a goddess.
It can be a huge switch going from body hate to body love…
So instead of putting pressure on yourself to heal your relationship with food, exercise, and body before your trip, here are some things + ideas to start playing around with getting your heart + mind right:
BE CHOOSY WITH YOUR IG SCROLL
Instead of looking at bodies that don’t look like yours and subconsciously shaming yourself into some last minute fitness or food frenzy, try looking at bodies that actually look like yours! This can be super healing to find cute beach scenes or vacation adventures captured with a happy looking human in a body that mirrors yours–it’s a reminder for your mind that you don’t have to change to enjoy your trip.
YOU AREN’T AS COOL AS YOU THINK YOU ARE
This one sometimes stings the ego a little bit but I’m going to break it to you…nobody is paying that much attention to you. Eeee! I know. Yes, you are beautiful. Yes, you are special. Yes, that new pink one piece is sexy. And…people are often most concerned with themselves. They may notice you in a fleeting moment but then will be on to making a decision about chicken or veggie tacos.
GET SOMETHING NEW YOU FEEL HOT IN
One external hack to feel fab is obviously getting something you feel fab in! For vacations I love getting a new hat, some new flats, or even some out of the ordinary jewelry to spice up my mood. Hint: I also love a new suit from Swimsuits For All that hugs my curves just right and put me in the mood to pose for The Gram.
INDUCE ULTRA SELF-CARE MODE
Boost your body confidence by actually connecting with your body and adorning it with some super sweet TLC. Think: full body dry-brush sessions in the AM + PM, slowly putting on your silky body lotion (& maybe adding a couple drops of your favorite essential oil), and taking that hour long bubble bath you’ve been envisioning all week. Reignite that spark between you and your beautiful body.
ADD A LITTLE MANTRA DURING YOUR MORNING RITUAL
Hey girl, it’s okay to look yourself in the mirror and do some good ol’ fashioned positive self-talk to rewrite whatever wild story your mind started playing when you woke up. Here are 3 mantras you can say aloud before you take on the day:
- I am grateful for my body and what it does for me.
- I don’t need to change my body to have a great day.
- I am a fucking sex pot and I will own it today.
